Barrios paid tribute to the music and people of his native land by composing pieces modeled after folk songs from South America and Central America. Imitating the compositional style and techniques of the Baroque and Romantic periods was another side to his craftsmanship. |

This study was composed in San Salvador on June 13, 1940 and was undoubtedly intended for his students with the didactic purpose of developing coordination between the hands which involves position changes and string shifting (Estudio para Ambas Manos translates as “Study for Both Hands”).
